Onsite Siemens drive / PLC communication diagnostics

SINAMICS G120 F01910 fieldbus setpoint timeout stopped the line?

F01910 indicates the drive did not receive the expected fieldbus setpoint telegram in time. It does not alone identify whether the initiating issue is the PLC, controller state, network path, drive interface or project configuration. West Engineering Systems investigates industrial controls faults onsite to identify the fault area and help determine the next action. Based in Appleton, Wisconsin, we provide field service across the United States.

Discuss Your F01910 Fault

Call (920) 851-6363 with the fault text and fieldbus type if known.

Setpoint timeout is not the same as a motor overcurrent

Siemens' G120 CU240B-2/CU240E-2 list manual describes F01910 as “Fieldbus interface setpoint timeout” when setpoint reception is interrupted on applicable variants. Confirm the installed Control Unit and fieldbus before interpreting project-specific responses. A fieldbus failure can coincide with PLC or network alarms, but a generic HMI “drive fault” message does not establish which event came first.

Only one drive reports the event

Record the affected drive and any status already visible at its controller and network connection. A single drive fault may narrow the investigation, but does not prove that its communication port is damaged.

Several drives stop together

List every drive and the first event time. Compare the controller's state and shared network path in authorized diagnostics; simultaneous faults may share an upstream condition rather than independent drive failures.

After controller or network work

Document the recent change, existing project versions and first abnormal cycle. The configured telegram, connection and monitoring time matter; do not change them on a running production network based on one displayed code.

Onsite diagnostic goal: correlate PLC state, drive fault history, communication diagnostics and the actual fieldbus topology to determine where the interruption originated and what to examine next.

What to gather before calling

  • Facility, affected motor(s), stopped process and time of first event.
  • Exact F01910 display, fault value if shown, and contemporaneous PLC/HMI alarms.
  • Whether one or many fieldbus devices lost communication, and whether the CPU was in RUN or STOP.
  • Known Control Unit model, fieldbus type (such as PROFINET or PROFIBUS), drawings and an unmodified backup, if already available.

Which guide fits the symptom?

If the PLC reports a named PROFINET I/O station offline, see the PROFINET device guide; a drive telegram timeout and a lost I/O station are not identical diagnoses. An HMI with stale values but no established drive fault belongs in the HMI-to-PLC guide. If the G120 simply will not start, use the G120 start guide. F30001 and F30002 instead have overcurrent and overvoltage diagnostic paths. If the initiating event is not established, begin with the machine-down overview.

Request onsite F01910 diagnostics

Tell us what stopped, whether other drives or PLC devices faulted, and what the first message showed. We can discuss whether an onsite controls investigation is a fit.
