Onsite Siemens drive fault diagnostics
SINAMICS G120 F30001 overcurrent fault stopped the motor?
F30001 means the power unit detected overcurrent; it does not by itself establish whether the cause is a motor/load condition, cable, supply, configuration or power unit. If your line has stopped, preserve the displayed message and the event sequence. West Engineering Systems provides onsite industrial controls troubleshooting to identify the fault area and help determine the next action. Based in Appleton, Wisconsin, we provide field service across the United States.

What F30001 tells you—and what it does not
Siemens' G120 CU240B-2/CU240E-2 list manual identifies F30001 as “Power unit: Overcurrent” and describes several possible causes. Confirm the installed Control Unit, Power Module and firmware before using a manual for a particular variant. The separate F07801 motor-overcurrent message is not interchangeable with F30001.
At first start or acceleration
Record whether the fault arrived immediately with the start request, during acceleration, or only after the process loaded. That timing helps distinguish a start-related load or configuration question from a trip under sustained operation; it is not a diagnosis by itself.
After a change
Note any documented motor, cable, drive, parameter or supply work preceding the first event. An apparent power-unit trip can have an upstream or connected-equipment cause; avoid assuming that replacing the inverter will restore production.
Fault value and history
Record the exact fault text, value and other alarms already visible on the drive or HMI. For the cited CU240B/E-2 manual, the F30001 fault value can identify a phase or DC-link overcurrent indication; interpretation depends on the actual variant.
Onsite diagnostic goal: compare event timing, existing drive diagnostics, motor/load context and authorized electrical evidence to narrow the fault area—not promise a restart or a replacement part.
Information to have ready
- Machine location, affected motor and last successful operation.
- Photo of F30001, its fault value and the first other alarms, if already displayed.
- Whether it trips before motion, while accelerating, under load or after a recent equipment change.
- G120 Control Unit and Power Module order numbers, if already known, plus drawings and an unmodified project backup.
Is this the right fault guide?
F30002 during deceleration points to a different DC-link overvoltage investigation. If the display instead reads F01910, follow the fieldbus setpoint-timeout guide. With no confirmed code or no start command, begin with the G120 won't-start guide; if the whole machine's stop source is unknown, use the machine-down overview.
